Jörðgarð Map of the Week - #73 - Šarlota's House of Healing

Description:First of all, apologies to everyone for being a week late. For those who didn't see my message last week: Our Internet connection is via UHF LTE transmission. The LTE station that serves us has serious problems last week that prevented our uploading anything of any size. Everything was supposed to be working on Thursday, but when I left for the weekend on Friday noon, all still was down. Things appear to be working just fine again today.

With the 73rd Map of the Week we continue in the borderlands town of Óðinn's House in the Kingdom of Slovania. This week we take a look at Šarlota's House of Healing, the largest house of non-magical and non-clerical healing in Slovania. Its success is due largely to the number of adventures who go into the ruins of the Æsir Empire to the north and then return with serious injuries. However, adventurers with empty pockets need not go to Šarlota's; hers is a commercial adventure. Treatment is on the basis of cash only. The sizable complex is a primitive version of a modern physician's practice with clinic and apothecary.

The building consists of a cellar, a ground floor and two upper stories. The cellar is a storage area. The ground floor houses rooms where the healers meet with patients who are not seriously ill or injured, the apothecary and a dining room and kitchen that serve both the staff and ambulatory patients making a convalescent stay in the house. The second story houses patients who need intensive care. The third story houses ambulatory convalescing patients.


The cellar is not usually illuminated. There is a hand torch in a sconce on the wall that can be lit and carried.

Ground Floor

4. Entrance. The door to the left, leading to the stairway and dining area, always is locked. To gain entrance, one must go to the recption (Area 10).

5. Stairway to the Inpatient Stations.

6. Dining Area. Both staff members and ambulatory inpatients dine here. There also is a lounge area that ambulatory inpatients may use.

7. Kitchen.

9. Patient Waiting Room.

10. Reception. The laborer Kazimir works this area and area No. 11.

11. Vendula's Room. The healer Vendula receives and treats ambulatory patients here.

12. Šarlota's Room. The healer Šarlota receives and treats ambulatory patients here.

13. Emergency Room. Non-ambulatory patients who are seriously ill or injured are given immediate treatment here by the healer Leoš. After receiving initial treatment, they can be placed upon the bed in the small, enclosed room. This bed is a lift, which brings the bedded patient into intensive care on the second story. A hand crank and pulley system raises and lowers the bed lift.

14. Valentýn's Apothecary Shop. Customers can buy a wide variety of herbal remedies and medicines here. The herbalists Valentýn, Bruno and Evženie all take turns waiting upon customers.

15. Apothecary Laboratory. Under Valentýn's supervision, he, Bruno and Evženie make herbal medicines and remedies in the laboratory.

16. Stairway to the Cellar. Many of the herbal ingredients and potions that are used to make medicines are stored in the cellar.

Second Story – Intensive Care

19. Gurney. This primitive gurney with a wooden bed and wooden wheels is used to transport patients from the lift to their beds.

24. Intensive Care Stations. The seriously ill have beds, night tables and chairs for visitors. Their belongings are kept in the brown wardrobes. Small wood-burning stoves are used to keep herbal potions and medicines warm

Third Story – Convalescent Care

Patients who are ambulatory but still to ill or injured to be released stay on this floor.

27. Convalescent Care Stations. Patients have beds, night tables and chairs and tables for visits. Their belongings are kept in the light brown chests of drawers and foot lockers. Small wood-burning stoves are used to keep herbal potions and medicines warm
