Yeah that's the map that gave me the idea in the first place. :)

What I'm looking to do is take a set of XML data and have stars, hyperlanes, and sectors created from it. Objects around each star are good, but not what I'm looking for to start off with. I realize this will produce a map similar to Kevin's, but once I've mastered that it should be easy enough to add in data representing other objects.

Sound good?

This might help you out, Kevin has already laid the
foundation, I dont know how accurate it is, perhaps Kevin has a Jpeg of the
whole map?
However adding bodies via from output of this
ready-made map to insert more code for input... someone other than me might
answer this for you.

Working with the demo version of AS, so bear with me. :)

I run a tabletop Star Wars RPG and have found some very cool maps out there. The Essential Star Wars Atlas is due out in June and should have coordinates for everything but failing that, I may still be able to get my hands on the coordinate data already used by some very talented mappers.

How easy is it to import XML data and have systems and planetary bodies created from that data? I'm only so-so with XML, thus my plan is to get the data in Excel, map to the XMl schema AS needs, export, import, voila. I see that there is a Star Wars galaxy map by Kevin DGrimm available at the NBos site, but as much as I like what I see there I just think it would be easier for my needs to collect the data and en masse push it to AS.

Ahh, one more thing. Could I use the trade lanes feature, or another feature I'm unaware of, to map out the common/rare/etc hyperlanes of the SW universe?

PS: Here's the map whose creator I'm contacting about coordinate data, and here's a bunch of other excellent resources for SW maps from the Wook.

Thanks for lending me your brain cells! :D
