Agreed.  Trying to use Astrosynthesis for very large sectors is not worth the hassle.  I divided my main sector into 27 cubes each 100Ly on a side.  Developing the trade routes across all of the "subsectors" was complicated.

That said, the generator does create screwy sectors.  I generated a 20LY sphere sector for a sample data set and most of the stars (all but 3?) ended up in one "corner" of the sphere.  Interesting, but not very believable or playable.  There were so many tightly packed stars in that area that the trade routes were indistinguishable from each other.  It 'smells' like a bug that might be particularly tough to root out.

If anyone has any suggestions for alternate generators the could generate a csv or excel file of stars, I'd be interested.

I don't think AS has the capability for an entire galaxy. In my experience, it's better to build it out in 100 light-year chunks.

Now that would be a blessing: a tool that had capability to generate an entire galaxy shape. Spiral arms and galactic cores for spiral galazies, and globular clusters

What I’ve noticed when I try to generate a sector, is that it seems to put all the stars in some small section of the whole area. Basically, I’ve stopped using it. What I do is use an Excel sheet I’ve created to generate the system info, save it as a csv and then import that to AS.

I’m working on a VBasic generator to give me more power over the process, maybe include variables for galaxy shapes and/or age, that sort of thing.
