I want the map to look authentic, but tracing will be good enough. I have a
feeling I will be reducing the detail, not adding to it.

To do the following, you should have the original map saved as a PNG or JPG
file.

Method No. 1
------------

This is my preferrred method. It will make the map new. At the end, the
original will be deleted again.

1. Open a new empty map.
2. Click the menu option Map.
3. Click the option Map Setup.
4. Click the tab Background Image
5. Click the command button Select
6. Choose the PNG or JPG file with the original map.
7. Click the command button OK.
8. Trace and make your new map atop the background with the old map in the
background.
9. When you're finished, repeat steps 1 through 4 above.
10. Erase the background file name.
11. Click the command button OK.

Method No. 2
------------
1. Copy the PNG or JPG file into an FM8 symbol folder (under MapArt)
2. Start the blank new map with the layer General
3. Open the FM8 symbols menu and choose the pseudo-symbol of your original
map.
4. Place and size the image.
5. Trace and place your objects on other layers. Don't use General for
anything else.
6. When you're done, make only the layer General selectable.
7. Erase the pseudo-symbol of your original map.
