[nbos] [FM8] Cartographers Guild (was Historical Map Collection)

In mid-June, there were some exchanges here between Joe Frazier and me
about the Cartographer's Guild. At that time, I expressed some my feeling
that the site was biased, among other things, in favor of an FM8 competitor.

Regardless of whether those reservations had merit or not, the site has been
revised, and I am convinced that it is truly neutral now and a good place to
be. Thus, I would ask all list members to consider my previous postings on
this topic as being completely outdated and no longer valid, if they seemed
valid to begin with.

The Vintyri (TM) Project has gone on board at the Cartographers Guild, and
we certainly will do our best to give FM8 more presence there. We urge
other list members to take a look at the site too:

Be warned in advance: When you go there, you will find almost nothing about
FM8, a lot about CC3, GIMP and Photoshop and a little about Dundjinni and
Paintshop Pro. This isn't a matter of non-neutraility. It's because the
CC3, GIMP and Photoshop communities have been quite active there, and
because those of us who use FM8 have been above all absent from the guild.
The extent to which FM8 is represented is based upon our degree of
participation.

However, don't let the current lack of FM8-specific information deter you.
A lot of the ideas and tips offered for CC3, GIMP and Photoshop can be
applied to FM8 cartography too.

Our main priority at the Vintyri (TM) Project is to support free, open games
and gaming material. But it's also a high priority of ours to try to make
the mapping community as communicative as possible. It helps us all. With
the changes that the Cartographers Guild has implemented, we think it's now
one of the good places to do that, so we've climbed on board.
