On the face of it, that sounds great. I'll try it out. Presumably, they
give me formulae to enter into the appropriate Excel cell?

The equations here:

will convert RA and Dec into celestial x,y,z coords.
The xy plane is the plane of Earth's equator, and
the positive X axis points at the First point of Aries.

The equations here:
http://www.projectrho.com/smap04.html
will convert celestial x,y,z into galactic x,y,z.
The xy plane is the plane of the galaxy, and
the positive X axis points at the galactic core.

You should be able to set these up in a spreadsheet
to convert your star data.
