Thanks, Russ, that did the trick - all now ship shape and Bristol fashion.
Thanks a lot.

Ah, sorry - I forgot one important aspect: When you switch to the
destination map, you have to actually open it within the same FM instance,
you can't have a second instance going. So you select what you want, copy
it, then go to <File><Open> and open your destination map or go to
<File><New> and create a new map to be the destination.

>From what I can tell, FM doesn't use the OS clipboard - it uses its own
clipboard, so it doesn't work between instances.

Ctrl-C & Ctrl-V have always worked for me, but - like I said - only within
the same instance.

Hope that helps!

Russ

Russ:

I thought I'd try your suggestion. I made just the layer I wanted to copy
selectable, clicked on <Edit> <Select All> and then <Edit> <Copy>. I then
switched to the map I wanted to copy the layer to and Clicked <Edit>; the
Paste option was greyed-out as were the options under Paste Special. I tried
using Ctrl-V but that didn't work either.

Does your suggestion work only within a single map, perhaps? I'd really like
to have this particular string for my bow, since my method involves other
complications I'd rather do without.

Mike

When I've done this in the past, I've made only the one layer selectable,
selected everything on the map, and copied it. Is that what you're looking
for?

I would like to copy the contents of a layer in one map to a layer in a
different map. I've looked through the Help files but can't find a way to do
this - I'm sure it's simplicity itself but I'm stuck. Can anyone help?

Cheers,
