Re: [nbos] [AS] iOS viewer app?

That sounds exactly the kind of thing that would hit the button. Of
course, the ideal would be to run AS3 on my Android but I realise that
just isn't feasible. It's hard enough trying to get it to run on Linux!

As I understand your proposal, the user could have AS3 running on a PC
that can be accessed remotely by his/her Androd/iPad and everyone would
be able to view whatever the GM or referee wanted them to see. The GM
would be able to manipulate AS3 so that he could provide access to these
things for the players - is that correct?

If so, how would you see the GM exercising control over the PC? - would
your app provide the link or would the pad/tablet owner(s) need
something like LogMeIn or some kind of Citrix facility installed to
provide remote control over the PC? Which all sounds a little demanding
of an Android tablet running Android 2.2/2.3 OS even if an iPad could
achieve it.

As you can tell, I'm no expert in these things but I don't know whether
to get excited or heave a sigh and wish I had 400 or so to spend on an
iPad :-)

Cheers,

Mike

Hi all,

I'm a long-time lurker on this list. However this thread makes me want
to
reply. I make iOS and Android apps for a living, and I specialize in
Augmented Reality apps. Mostly cute commercial stuff, but I've long
wished
for something I can use to help me with my SF games.
I'm a big AS fan, though I've not used it in a couple of years.
But I'd like to open the floor to suggestions as to what people would
like
to see in an AS helper app. I'm not suggesting I would make it as such.
I
certainly don't want to interfere with nbos in any way. If they have
something in the pipe, fantastic. However I would be honored to help
crowd-design or at least make up a wish-list.

For starters, let me throw out that I'd like the mobile app to be able
to
be a remote control for the AS application running on the PC or mobile.

This would allow for easy control of data flow to other players, and if
we
all had our phones or tablets at a game... then we all just log onto a
server or service and we're all seeing the data the GM wants us to see.

Plus... if there was an AR function in there... it would allow the game

table to be treated as a kind of fake holographic projector. I do work
like this all the time. It's not hard. The point here is that all the
players would be able to see the star systems hovering over the playing

surface.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes
here.
