Once again, there are echoes of the World Builder supplement in this
treatment. It used a slightly different method to determine which orbits
contained no planets (too unstable) but the results would be very

The GURPS Traveller supplement for designing starsystems (cannot
remember what it is called) had a fairly simple system for binaries
(sorry as I can't find my copy I don't remember what it did for systems
with more than two stars). But for binaries what you did was work out
the closest and farthest distances apart of the two stars. The
eccentricity of the orbit and the mean distances will give you this.
Then divide the closest approach by three and multiply the farthest
separation by three. This would give you the stable orbit bands. Any
bodies orbiting their primary at greater than a third the minimum
seperation were deleted unless they were at greater than three times the
maximum separation.
