Try this
Import your BMP. Then...
Menu --> Enlarge Globe (x2)

If you are already at max pixels, take your bmp and reduce the size using photoshop or other image editing software.
For some reason the Enlarge globe corrects a lot of glitchy stuff, you might end up with the world as close as you can get it without starting over again.

I don't know if you own Fractal Mapper, the NBOS full mapping software, but you can import the bitmap and add things to it on other layers but I'm not sure if you could change anything on the bitmap itself - I haven't tried to do anything like that myself. If you don't have FM, you can download a trial version that would at least allow you to play around.

Someone else may be able to help with the FEW import - again, I haven't tried anything of that sort.

I have looked through all my archived information and am dismayed to find my original creation from FWE is only in bmp format.

I tried importing it back into FWE, but the shading all comes up as water on the bottom of the mountains.

Is my only alternative to re-create as close as I can?

Also as a side note the world I created was a 4800x2000 map as the world is a torus.. I cannot for the life of me figure out how I did that originally!
