I think he doesn't necessarily mean that they sort as they are placed.
I agree this would be a hard problem unless you had an 'add as group'
function. I wouldn't implement it that way because it doesn't address
adding a symbol to the group later, or how to resolve overlapping groups
(it's an incomplete solution).
I think by 'auto-sort' he means that a tool is available that allows him
to have the software reorder symbols as he specifies, not that the
software controls the initial placement.
