Hi Ed:

Thanks for jogging the memory. It was as you say. I now recall that,
following your reply, I was having problems working out how to add the
appropriate field so that I could use it for the search. I don't think I
cracked it and decided I was being dense so should leave it for a while
and get back to it. I never did. I now will.

If it helps others, when I've sorted myself out, I'll post step by step
instructions in case there are any others out there with my addled wits.

For simple searching, there's nothing preventing it on a technical basis
-
its just adding a field.

For the larger topic of enhanced searching, and in conjunction, mass
editing, things would be more involved. In order for such a system to
really be useful it'd need to handle at least some type of
complex/conditional searching (find all habitable planets with a
population > 10 million and set the political affiliation to X). Its
certainly possible - it'd just require quite a significant bit of
programming time.
