I downloaded and used the additional city tools for FM7 quite frequently.
Unfortunately, now that I upgraded to Mapper8 I can't get them to work.
Has anyone been able to convert them for use in Mapper8? If so please help
me out. I really like those tools.

Thanks,

-Chris C

I also tried running it on my XP workstation. I have FM7 and FM8 installed,
but it says there is not a licensed version of the game installed... It
doesn't look like this is the error about the license file. Any ideas?

Hey Chris,

I think I might have a solution for you...if you use scripts written for
FM7, they won't likely work because the FM 7 tutorial has you use standard
VB code when writing scripts (so I assume those you downloaded were written
using this format). However, a response to my problem in yesterday's digest
directed me here:
http://www.nbos.com/nox/wiki.php?topic=goblinapi_helloworld

Where we can see that user-written plugins require "#plugin <name>" where
name is the same as the script file name. I don't know if this was the case
for FM 7 for sure because I never wrote any scripts for it, but if we go by
what the GoblinAPI tutorial for FM 7 says to do, than there is no
requirement to use "#plugin <name>". I'd suggest that you try modifying the
script in a text editor by simply inserting that bit of code into the
beginning of the file.

By the way, this reminds me of a problem I was having last night and this
might be purely windows vista-related...but I can't actually save files to
the plugins directory for FM 8 because it is apparently a read-only
directory...and I can't change this, even by right-clicking and going to
'Properties' and unchecking that box. I think Microsoft should be paying me
by the hour to run their OS...

Can you launch the inspiration pad? (F-8 from within the program) If that
loads ok, then the scripting engine is running ok. Its possible some
security setting could interfere with the scripting engine, but there
havent been any problems specific to Vista in that regard reported.

Armed with a new wiki, I've placed a pair of simple GoblinAPI plugins
online:
http://www.nbos.com/nox/wiki.php?topic=FMScripting

btw, it's ShowMapStats(), which may be why its not executing. Press F-5,
and type that in. You should get the dialog box.

Ed

Yes, Inspiration Pad works fine. I just remembered that function wrong, it
still didn't work when I tried using it the way the FM7 Goblin API
suggested. However, running it with F5 did work. By the way, those plugins
you placed online helped me figure out the problem, as I described above. I
think all FM8 plugins need to have "#plugin <file_name>" explicitly
declared, which doesn't seem to have been the case with FM7. I think it
would save people some trouble if the FM7 GoblinAPI Tutorial were updated to
an FM8 version. Actually, it would also give nbos a chance to include some
added functionality by making the new features a part of GoblinAPI, such as
the special effects...I know it would help me to automate certain tasks...
