If one wants the same result that CC3 gives one with a new installation (after FM8 has been installed), one should copy only those PNG symbol files that end with HI_PNG, not those that end with LO_PNG or VH_PNG.

But performance with symbols is best if the file DEFAULT.XML also is in _each_ of the symbol folders. One can create that file one time with the Windows Notebook. The following text should be entered in the Notebook:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
<symbol><pixel size='0.025' unit='Feet'/></symbol>

... and then saved with the name DEFAULT.XML. After memorizing this file in one symbol folder, simply use the clipboard and copy it into all of the other folders.

Exactly this same system will work with the CSUAC symbols, for those who have downloaded them already for CC3. Some folks may wish to install the CSUAC symbols for CC3 manually into FM8 rather than downloading all 500 MB a second time.

The PNG _fills_ (not symbols) from CC3 should be copied into the following FM8 folder structure to assure that the FM8 fill menu will find them:

Copy them into the following directory:

X:
|_Programs
|_NBOS
|_Mapper8
|_FillPatterns
|_Battlemap

OR (as appropriate)

X:
|_Programs
|_NBOS
|_Mapper8
|_FillPatterns
|_Classic

For the CC3 _symbols_ (not fills), create this folder structure and copy the symbols with the ending HI_PNG into the appropriate folders:

X:
|_Programs
|_NBOS
|_Mapper8
|_FillPatterns
|_MapArt
|_CC3
|_Borders
|_Cartouches
|_Coast
|_Mountains
|_Natural
|_Structures
|_Vegetation

For the CSUAC symbols, first of all create the new subordinate folder CSUAC as follows:

X:
|_Programs
|_NBOS
|_Mapper8
|_FillPatterns
|_MapArt
|_CSUAC


Then copy all of the subordinate CC3 folders under ArtFiles:

X:
|_Programs
|_ProFantasy
|_CC3
|_Symbols
|_CSUAC
|_ArtFiles

into:

X:
|_Programs
|_NBOS
|_Mapper8
|_FillPatterns
|_MapArt
|_CSUAC

Afterwards, erase in each of the new folders all PNG files with the endings LO_PNG and VH_PNG and add into each of these folders the file DEFAULT.XML (see above).

These steps may seem like a lot of work, but for those with slow Internet connections or who don't pay on a flat rate basis, it still may be preferable to a second 500 MB download.
