Program Updates
For the most recent program updates for Fractal Mapper 8.0 and AstroSynthesis 2.0, please visit the program updates section at the
NBOS Online Exchange
Below are additional program updates for older versions of our software
- Fractal Mapper 7.10f Update (posted 05-24-2006)
This is an update to Fractal Mapper v7.0. This is an installation program that will update your FM7 installation.
To install, download the file and run it. Changes in this update:
- [updated] FM has been updated to allow direct uploads to the the new NBOS Online Exchange system. When you select File - Upload from the menu your map will be uploaded to the new system rather than the old system (NBOS Online v1.1).
- [new] Added two new 'Raster Symbol' menu items to the Object menu to allow you to assign a default scale to a .png or .bmp symbols so that they will be placed on your map at a consistent, definable size. To assign a size for the symbol: First place a .png or .bmp symbol on your map, and size it as desired. Then select Raster Symbols - Set As Symbol Default Scale from the menu. When you do this, the next time you use that symbol on your map it will be placed on the map at the scale you had defined. To clear the scale so that the program goes back to using the default sizes, select Object - Raster Symbols - Clear Symbol Scale.
- [fixed] A problem using .png symbols with the Random Symbol fill tool has been fixed.
This program will not be functional if you are not a registered owner of
Fractal Mapper v7 - it requires licensing information that is included in the full commercial version's installer.
- Fractal Mapper 7.10e Update (posted 03-17-2006)
This is an update to Fractal Mapper v7.0. This is an installation program that will update your FM7 installation.
To install, download the file and run it. Changes in this update:
- [new] Transparent PNG image file support. PNG images that feature alpha channel information for varying degrees of transparency can be used as mapping symbols. If you use png's as symbols, previous builds of the mapper will not be able to open the map because older builds will not understand the png images.
- [fixed] The problem printing to a fixed grid size when selecting a portion of the map is fixed. It will now print at scale when an area is selected on the thumbnail.
- [fixed] Custom Fields for the Map object were not saving/loading correctly in scripts.
- [fixed] The problem w/ layer names sometimes not saving if you changed them is fixed.
- [new] This .exe is built with the latest FWE terrain engine, so maps made with FWE 1.6 (which comes with Astro v2) can be used as background maps.
This program will not be functional if you are not a registered owner of
Fractal Mapper v7 - it requires licensing information that is included in the full commercial version's installer.
- ScreenMonkey v1.5 (posted 5-05-2004)
This is a minor point version upgrade for the commercial version of ScreenMonkey v1.0. This is an installation program that will update your ScreenMonkey installation. To install, download the file and run it. Notable changes:
- [New] A completely new 'advanced' player interface. This new web interface features a single window display with both the map and chat on one page. There's a scrollable map area for big maps, map zooming (IE only), and collapsable/resizable panels. In addition, the chat display now maintains a full record of the entire session's messages in a scrollable window.
- [New] Added a 'Automatically Select file format for smallest size' option in preferences. When checked (as it is by default), ScreenMonkey will automatically choose between PNG and JPG formats and select the one that produces the smallest map image size. This improves performance.
- [Change] The miniature selection list in the Add NPCs window has been replaced with a multiple column, scrollable selection list. This makes it possible to easily see all the available miniature images.
- [Change] When placing NPCs on the map, the first NPC of a specific type is not numbered. This allows the GM to place unique characters on the map without having a number in their name.
This program will not be functional if you are not a registered owner of
ScreenMonkey - it requires licensing information that is included in the full commercial downloaded installer.
- AstroSynthesis 1.10d Update (posted 02-12-2005)
This is a patch to all previous builds of AstroSynthesis (v1.01a, v1.01c, v1.10a). This is an installation program that
will update your AstroSynthesis installation. To install, download the file and run it.
Notable changes:
- [fix] Fixes a 'Cannot Set Pixel Format' error that users with certain
video drivers received when assigning an image as a planetary surface map.
- [change] The System Data tree does not completely collapse after each change
to a planet's or star's properties. This makes it easier to work with when
making multiple changes in a system.
- [fix] White Dwarfs and Brown Dwarfs were not previously listed in the New System
lists or Children creation menus. They are now present, and generate appropriate
system contents.
- AstroSynthesis 1.10a Update (posted 10-04-2004)

AstroSynthesis v1.0 or later - it requires licensing information that is shipped on the CD (or
as part of the download if purchased online).
- Fractal Mapper 7.01c Update (posted 9-26-2004)
This is an update to Fractal Mapper v7.0. This is an installation program that will update your FM7 installation.
To install, download the file and run it. Notable changes:
- [change] FM7 will only use it's local copy of gdiplus.dll. This works around an incompatibility introduced by Windows XP Service Pack 2 that was causing all bitmap pattern fills to have a red tint.
- [security] The gdiplus.dll included in this update is hardened against the MS JPEG buffer overrun vulnerability.
- [fixes] A number of minor cumulative fixes are included that address file compatibility with older FM versions and a few GoblinAPI fixes.
This program will not be functional if you are not a registered owner of
The Fractal Mapper v7.0 or later - it requires licensing information that is shipped on the CD (or
as part of the download if purchased online).
- ScreenMonkey v1.01b (posted 7-10-2004)
This is a minor upgrade for ScreenMonkey v1.0. To install,
unzip and replace your current ScreenMonkey.exe with the one stored in this
zip file. Notable changes:
- [new feature] Universal Plug and Play router support. ScreenMonkey can now automatically configure those home networking routers that support UPnP. These include most Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, and other popular home networking routers. When ScreenMonkey starts up, it will check for the existence of a UPnP enabled router on your network, and if one is found, configure the router to automatically forward the ScreenMonkey port from the router to your computer.
- [security enhancement] Scripts used by ScreenMonkey can now have an extension of '.SMScript', rather than '.vbs'. This prevents the accidental execution of scripts from within mail clients or Windows Explorer.
This program will not be functional if you are not a registered owner of
ScreenMonkey - it requires licensing information that is included in the full commercial downloaded installer.
- The Fractal Mapper v6.2d (posted 1-16-2003)

unzip and replace your current Mapper6.exe with the one stored in this
zip file.
- The purpose of this release it to provide integration with ScreenMonkey v1.0. There are two new menu items in the File menu, Posting Configuration and Post to ScreenMonkey. Use these menu items to configure and post what is displayed in your FM6.2 window to the map display in ScreenMonkey.
- In addition, this version of FM displays a symbol color palette editor (like the one Character Sketcher v3.0 offers), in the form of a second color bar at the bottom of the window. This color bar displays the individual colors of selected vector symbols. These colors can be edited by double clicking on the new color bar.
This program will not be functional if you are not a registered user of
The Fractal Mapper v6.0 or later - it requires licensing information that is shipped on the CD (or

system resources (something mostly seen on Windows 95/98/Me machines)
- [Bug Fix] Fixed an AV that occurred when maps with background JPEGs were loaded.

submap multiple times into a file. When this happened, it used more memory
than needed, and created much larger files than needed.
This has been fixed.

with a ',' instead of '.'). Users in Europe and South America had reported receiving
'not a valid floating point' messages when they tried to load samples or enter decimals.
